How to get to Prague Castle by metro
Overview
Prague Castle is the largest coherent castle complex in the world and the seat of Czech kings, emperors and the country's president. It towers above the Malá Strana district, crowned by St. Vitus Cathedral. The castle has no metro station of its own – the closest is Malostranská on green Line A, from where you climb uphill to the main gate.

How to get there
Get off at Malostranská station (Line A). From there you have two options. On foot: walk up Valdštejnská street and climb the Old Castle Stairs, a roughly 12–15 minute walk that is partly uphill. By tram: from Malostranská take tram 22 to the Pražský hrad stop, from where the castle's second courtyard is just a few level steps away. Tram 22 is the classic and most comfortable choice.
Good to know
💡 The security check at the entrance to the grounds can build queues, so arrive early. The courtyards are free to enter; tickets are only needed for the interiors (cathedral, Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica, Golden Lane). Tram 22 gets crowded, so watch out for pickpockets.
