How to get to Charles Bridge by metro

Overview

Charles Bridge is Prague's most famous bridge, founded by Charles IV in 1357. It links the Old Town with Malá Strana, is lined with thirty Baroque statues and guarded by bridge towers at each end. The bridge is pedestrian-only and one of the busiest spots in the city. It has no metro station of its own – from the right bank the nearest is Staroměstská, from the left bank Malostranská, both on Line A.

How to get there

Get off at Staroměstská station (Line A) and walk down Křižovnická street towards the river; you'll reach the Old Town bridge tower in about 8 minutes on foot. If you're coming from the Malá Strana side, use Malostranská station (Line A), roughly a 7-minute walk from the bridge. So the metro drops you close, but you always cover the last stretch to the bridge on foot through the lanes of the historic centre.

Good to know

💡 The bridge is emptiest at dawn or late in the evening, when it is also beautifully lit. During the day expect crowds and keep an eye on your belongings because of pickpockets. Walking across the bridge is free; a fee applies only for climbing the bridge towers.
