How to get to Old Town Square & Astronomical Clock by metro

Overview

Old Town Square is the heart of historic Prague. Here you'll find the medieval Astronomical Clock on the Old Town Hall, the Gothic Church of Our Lady before Týn, the Baroque St. Nicholas Church and the Jan Hus Memorial. Every hour on the hour crowds gather at the clock to watch the procession of the twelve Apostles. The square sits a short walk from Staroměstská station on Line A.

How to get there

Get off at Staroměstská station (Line A) and head east along Kaprova or Platnéřská street; you'll reach the square in about 5 minutes on foot. The route is flat and easy, running through busy lanes full of shops. The metro drops you very close, and you'll see the Astronomical Clock as soon as you enter the square.

Good to know

💡 The clock chimes every hour on the hour from 9:00 to 23:00; arrive a few minutes early to get a spot. A lift runs up the town hall tower and offers the best view over the square. Restaurants right on the square are noticeably pricier than those in the surrounding lanes.
