Getting from Prague airport to the city centre

Getting from Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) into the city centre is easy and cheap, but there is one key fact to know: no metro or train reaches the airport terminal. You always have to take a bus or trolleybus first, and it connects you to a metro station. The most common and cheapest way is trolleybus 59 (the former line 119) to Nádraží Veleslavín, then Metro Line A (green) into the centre. A single standard 90-minute PID ticket covers the whole trip. Below we cover every realistic option with prices, times and pitfalls.

Václav Havel Airport Prague (Ruzyně) (PRG)

⚠️ Important: no metro line or train reaches the airport terminal. You always reach the metro network by bus or trolleybus first — most often trolleybus 59 to Nádraží Veleslavín (Metro A, green) or bus 100 to Zličín (Metro B, yellow). From there you ride the metro into the centre on the same ticket.

Connecting to the metro

Frequently asked questions

Is there a direct metro or train from Prague airport to the centre?

No. No metro or train reaches the Václav Havel Airport terminal. You must first take a bus or trolleybus to a metro station (most often Nádraží Veleslavín on Line A, or Zličín on Line B). The airport rail link is not yet in operation.

Does one ticket cover both the bus and the metro?

Yes. A single standard 90-minute PID ticket for 50 CZK (46 CZK in the app) is valid on the trolleybus/bus and the connecting metro, including the transfer. Within 90 minutes you can freely change between metro, tram, bus and trolleybus. The only exception is the Airport Express, which has its own fare.

What happened to bus 119?

Bus 119 was replaced by trolleybus 59 in 2024, running the same route between the airport and Nádraží Veleslavín (Metro A). On the stops and in the apps you will see the number 59 — it works exactly like the old "119" and takes the same PID ticket.

How much is the Airport Express and does a regular ticket work on it?

The Airport Express (AE) goes directly to Praha hlavní nádraží (main train station) and costs 200 CZK per person (raised from 100 CZK in January 2026). Regular PID tickets and passes are NOT valid on it — you must buy a separate AE ticket, e.g. from the driver by card.

How much does a taxi from the airport to central Prague cost?

To the centre expect roughly 700–800 CZK (~€28–32); via the Bolt app often 580–700 CZK. The safest option is to order via an app (Uber, Bolt) or pre-book a fixed-price transfer. Do not take rides from drivers who approach you in the hall.
