How to get to Vyšehrad by metro

Overview

Vyšehrad is a historic fortress on a rocky headland above the Vltava, wrapped in legends about the origins of Czech statehood. Here you'll find the neo-Gothic Church of St. Peter and Paul, the Rotunda of St. Martin and Slavín – the honorary cemetery of prominent Czechs, including Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák. The ramparts offer one of the finest views over Prague. Unlike the centre, Vyšehrad has its own metro station on red Line C.

How to get there

Get off at Vyšehrad station (Line C). From the exit head west past the Congress Centre and go through the Tábor Gate into the fortress grounds; the main sights are an easy 6-minute walk on level ground. It is one of the few major Prague attractions where the metro genuinely takes you all the way there, with no tram and no climb.

Good to know

💡 The fortress grounds are freely accessible and free of charge; admission is only for the casemates and a few buildings. Wear good shoes for the cobbled paths and don't miss a walk along the ramparts for the view. Right by the metro exit stands the modern Congress Centre – the historic Vyšehrad itself lies just beyond it.
